Synopsis:Based on the critically acclaimed best–selling novel by Alice Sebold, and directed by Oscar winner Peter Jackson from a screenplay by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, "The Lovely Bones" centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal. The story line is creepy and "nice". I mean it's a great movie story, it's very well played and Stanley Tucci is a creep in it. But it's so looooong. Come on... just wake up Peter... There's too much CG in it. It's long, it's boring...zzzz...

Saoirse Ronan is very good in this movie, but I found the movie itself strange and disturbing. The ending was unsatisfactory.

Boring bones 10 out of 100
Saoirse Ronan is too good an actor for this film. The heaven bit is so flowery and cloudy (literally). A little tension at times but all in all quite boring. Cork Claire

Lovely Bones. 35 out of 100
Was quite surprised that I enjoyed this, didn't expect to like it at all. Excellent performance from Saoirse in the lead, well worth a viewing.

Wouldn't rush to watch it again, but not bad. 25 out of 100
It was grand, very moving and disturbing in some parts. The english would-be-boyfriend and weird-just-wants-to-be-understood girl were useless in my opinion, but Saoirse Ronan is great.

Not quite what I expected. Far too much imagery and not enough real plot. I didn't feel satisfied with the ending.

Excellent 40 out of 100
This film is a perfect balance between a psycho-thriller and a tale of an after death experience! If it had just been the murder story, then I'd say it had been done before, but the special effects, the acting and the sentiment just raised it way above other films of this genre. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Not as disturbing as I expected which is great. It was a really good engaging film which opened the mind about what comes after life. Really enjoyed it

It got bad reviews when it came out and there were many things about it that they didn't get right but over all I enjoyed it. It certainly holds your attention but Peter Jackson should have done better. Young Saoirse Ronan is just brillent!!!

Disappointing 25 out of 100
After all the hype with this film I was very disappointed. I expected an awful lot more, I enjoyed it but not as much as I thought I would. Storyline good, acting good but it left reality too much at times with dancing and prancing about in colourful grass etc, bit unnecassary. Glad I didn't go to the cinema to see it and waited for DVD

Lovely bones, but very dark bones 40 out of 100
Plays really well and the main charcter is well acted. The films looks beautiful in parts, but then the very chilling reminder comes in half way and you're reminded that a very very dark undertone lies creepily beneath

Really enjoyed this film. It was not as gruesome as the book and helped me to understand the book much better than heretofore. Thought the acting was great too

Quite Disappointing 20 out of 100
I never usually compare films to the book they were based on, so that is not the reason for my disappointment. Although I enjoyed the scenes rooted in the life Susie leaves behind, it was the "inbetween" world that left me cold. I found the the visuals to be somewhat tacky and and rather cheap looking, I was unmoved by it. ALso Mark Wahlberg is ineffective in the role of the father. Stanley Tucci puts in a brilliant performance though.

Saoirse Ronan is very good is this while Stanley Tucci is outstanding. However I felt Jackson took on too much with this adaptation of book and would have been better off concentrating more on the effects of a family coming to terms with the loss of their daughter. The cinematography is good but Jackson never gets the balance right. Worth watching though with Ronan underlines her terrific potential after her debut in Atonement a few years ago.

Couldn't bring myself to watch the whole movie, just a bit to 'way out there' with the ideas of what inbetween heaven and life maybe for a teenager in the '70's .

I believe the book is quite a well liked one but having only seen the film I would say avoid at all costs. Peter Jackson finally trips up and gives us a terrible script which could have been written by a 14 year old, add to that some awful editing and you quite quickly lose interest in all of the characters. The acting isn't bad but the poor souls are only doing there best with some awful material.

Gripping story 40 out of 100
This is a very sad story but nevertheless spellbinding and totally gripping. Luckily there is reasonably happy ending where poetic justice does happen. Loved the little visual touches from Peter Jackson - references to Lord of the Rings in the shopping mall. Saoirse Ronan really deserved her Oscar nomination!
