Synopsis:Nothing is what it seems... The acclaimed illusionist Eisenheim (Edward Norton) has not only captured the imaginations of all of Vienna, but also the interest of the ambitious Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell). But when Leopold's new fiancée (Jessica Biel) rekindles a childhood fascination with Eisenheim, the Prince's interest evolves into obsession...and suddenly the city's Chief Inspector (Paul Giamatti) finds himself investigating a shocking crime. But even as the Inspector engages him in a dramatic challenge of wills, Eisenheim prepares for his most impressive illusion yet.

Very good story line 45 out of 100
I wasn't sure about this film whilst watching it. I don't like anything about the supernatural but a friend had said that it is all illusions so I kept watching and it was well worth seeing it all to the end, it really has you guessing and is a very well put together film.

Beautiful but lacking something 30 out of 100
There is no doubt that this film is a thing of real beauty and I thoroughly enjoyed the first half or so. However, in the end it just failed to deliver. It just lacked something, heart or weight or something.

Mindblowing 50 out of 100
A film that makes you doubt your own perception of reality. Watched it a second time to catch up with all the little details which take you by surprise. Does the man, the Illusionist, have supernatural powers or is it all a big illusion? The filmmakers tell you, that all the tricks in the film are thouroughly studied and taken from from real illusions. Mindblowing! One of the best films I watched.

Very good movie, very enjoyable. Thought it was much better than the over-hyped Prestige which was released at a similar time and caused this movie to slip under a lot of peoples radar. Good cast, good acting and perfect timing at 1 hour 40 min.

Very enjoyable 45 out of 100
I really enjoyed this film - even watched it a second time before returning it. It had a great twist & the performances were superb. Ed Norton was on fire as usual & I even enjoyed Jessica Biel & thought she looked extremely beautiful, even though I normally find her rather boring & bland & quite ordinary looking. It is one of those films where you want to sit in a darkened room & scan it for every detail as you're watching it - very well made & lots of fun & intrigue.

Sufficiently Entertaining 35 out of 100
Good performances by a decent cast and the story keeps you guessing for long enough. Perhaps falls just-short of perfect towards the end. But definitely worth a watch.

This is great entertainment with an excellent Edward Norton (where is he anything less than excellent?!). The story has enough twists to keep you busy and it's beautifully shot, too. Really enjoyed this one.

Great story & ending, which is uncommon, usually you have one or the other. The special effects make this also worth a look, probably wouldn't have watched it (Not really my cup of tea) but am glad i did.

Another very good performance by Edward Norton with a great twist at the end. The film has a strange theme running through it with weird magic tricks that although obviously computer generated are, regardless, still believable given the time the film's set in. Worth a look but the accents are peculiar at times!!

My wife generally has an aversion to Ed Norton films but this was an exception. Very interesting, intelligent movie though if strictly comparing "magic" themed movies The Prestige which was aout around the same time last year may slightly edge it. Supporting cast is ok as well

A brilliant movie. I never quite knew where it was going. But it is definitely a movie you need to keep watching right to the end. Ed Norton is brilliant as the clever Illusionist and Jessica Biel is beautiful as usual.

This was a good film, but it could have been a bit better. The story has enough going on, enough twists to keep you interested, but just like another reviewer said, dont waste your weekend on it.

Edward Norton played a good role and was very clever in his way of being an illusionist in making all the goodness and real entertainment disappear - if you have a few hours to spare then its not too bad but its not really worth wasting a weekend evening over. It was trying to be clever with quite a weak story line

Not easy to describe what movie is about without giving away the plot. On the face of it, the troubled times of a 18th/19th cent magician not an over-appealing premise. However, it was really enjoyable, well constructed movie with the proverbial good twist which you tell us after that you saw it coming from a certain distance out. Much more than passable, and in terms of what else is out there, worth renting!

Clever and Intriguing 40 out of 100
A well filmed story about an illusionist and his attempt to win back his childhood sweetheart from her fiancé, the soon to be king of Austria. Plenty of twists and turns along the way in what essentially is a love story but with enough of a plot to keep anyone happy. The only thing that could have made this better would have been if Tim Burton directed it, as I feel he would have made it that much darker given that the lead character appears to have supernatural powers!

I had seen a trailer for this film and thought it would be good to watch... it was better than that!! Ed Norton is fantastic as the 'Illusionist' and although it was a bit slow paced in the beginning, the plot was excellent... especially the twist at the end!!

Atmospheric. 35 out of 100
One of those movies that keeps you guessing until the end and the reveal. Beautifully presented with Ed Norton doing well and Jessica Biel having a body to die for but the big star is Giamatti. He is excellent as the Chief Inspector investigating Norton's magical antics. The pace is quite slow but there's plenty to keep the interest up.

Beautiful to look at, not sure about the story 25 out of 100
I thought this was a very well made film visually. The attention to detail was amazing, the acting was good, especially Paul Giamatti and Eddie Marsan, I was surprised to see Jake wood (Max Branning in Eastenders) had quite an important role. But I felt that the story let the film down. The ending, with the obligatory 'twist' was pretty obvious from early on, and the overall feel of the film was old fashioned. All in all I enjoyed it, but felt it could have been done better.
