Synopsis:How often do you find the right person? Once is the inspirational tale of two kindred spirits who find each other on the bustling streets of Dublin. One is a street musician who lacks the confidence to perform his own songs, and thus works part-time helping his father, who runs a small, vacuum cleaner repair business, whilst he dreams of landing a record deal. The other is a young mother trying to find her way in a strange new town. She works as a house cleaner in an upper-class residence and is struggling financially, yearning for a piano she cannot afford. As their lives intertwine, they discover each other's talents and push one another to realise what each had only dreamt about before. Once is the inspiring story of their budding love for one another.

Refreshingly different 40 out of 100
I didn't know a whole lot about this film except that one of the songs won an oscar. I thought it was really well made, very refreshing and enjoyable to watch. Some of the camera technqiues were superb, making for some surprisingly intimate and honest scenes. Well worth a watch.

ONCE is a film to see and cherish for the magic of song and music combined in the setting of Dublin for a young man and woman who meet and who make wonderful music together.

Great feel-good movie. Not sure why it has a rating of 15 though? My 12 year old watched it and loved it - especially as he plays the guitar! Recommend this movie - it makes a pleasant change from the typical big-budget Hollywood style of film.

Nice film. Brilliant acting and singing by both actors. Loved the opening scene - the acting was so natural and convincing. Low budget but just as good as any other film.

Well, I was really impressed. Having known these guys for about 15 years now, I knew I could expect a quality piece of art & was very excited to see it since I hadn't spoken to any of the lads in 4 or 5 years. However; it was far better than I expected & wasn't the typical love story you would picture from the trailers in that the 2 protagonists never actually do what you'd expect them to do. Really worth watching 50 out of 100
This is a great film, it's something different from the usual run of the mill Hollywood films. It's great to recognise all the places in Dublin shown in the film. Very funny and thought provoking...Watch it :)

It was an absolutely beautiful movie. I loved it. Great music and 2 great characters and also very believable. I enjoyed it so much that I went out and bought the CD and the DVD.

At last, an Irish film that is actually brilliant! I was concerned about another chickflick endured for my partner but as it went on it got better and better. I was never a fan of the Frames but the music was excellent and its no surprise that these two played to an audience of 5,000 in Radio City Hall in New York last week.

Dreary self-obsessed singer/songwriter music but what do you expect from one guy and a guitar? They're all the same, in love with themselves and their problems. Other than that it was an OK feelgood movie. The girl out-acted the guy by a long way.

At the start I worried that I might end up bored to tears, but I have to say before long I was really into it. It's a very raw very real movie and doesn't end how you'd expect. The fact that it's a musical shouldn't put you off, they don't burst into song for no reason and if you like Glens stuff there isn't a song you won't like!

Very nice 40 out of 100
Could also be knows as "A tour of Dublin to the music of 'The Frames'", Once is a short and sweet movie that relies on believable characters, a nice story and good music to entertain us. And for me it worked very well. No real drama occurs sand there's no extensive plot but the leads play their roles very well and it's just all quietly enjoyable.

This movie was very slow moving, and the ending was disappointing not much actually happens in the film. The music was its only saviour and does make the film watchable.

Probably the best movie I have watched for some time although there is a not a big theatrical storyline it is like a breadth a fresh air compared to what passes as movies these days and the music is class highly recommend to anyone.

somwehat slow but good 40 out of 100
Likeable characters and slow and simple but interesting story interspersed with a number of very nice little unpretentious songs make this a very nice movie for a quiet night in. A good modern "musical" for fans of singer-songwriter acoustic guitar music.

After the first 15 minutes of this film, you feel it might be the promo dvd for Hansards music. However, the chemistry between Hansard and Irglova provides for a touching and enjoyable film about friendship in modern Dublin. You'll be humming the oscar winning title track for days after.

Modern Day Musical 45 out of 100
Excellent film if you love music. Really enjoyed this as both a story and a musical piece. Good acting too considering both leads were new to acting. Secenes with songs in them were particularly natural. I'd recommend this to anyone. Well deserved Oscar!!!

Not a musical, don't worry - it's BRILLIANT! 50 out of 100
This movie has the look of a documentary at first, but then you begin to feel that you are the fly on the wall of real lives of two wonderful people who meet, make fab music together and fall for each other. Captivating, inspiring, un-Hollywood-ised, micro budget, made in three weeks on a couple of handycams, non-actors but real artists. It's real, and that's why it's magical! Watch it, and then go out and buy the soundtrack, The Swell Season album, and some Frames albums. My fave Irish film.
