Synopsis:Set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in 1990's Sierra Leone, Blood Diamond is the story of Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio) - a South African mercenary - and Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou) - a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories as different as any can be, until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond that can transform their lives. While in prison for smuggling, Archer learns that Solomon - who was taken from his family and forced to work in the diamond fields - has found and hidden the extraordinary rough stone. With the help of Maddy Bowen (Jennifer Connelly), an American journalist whose idealism is tempered by a deepening connection with Archer, the two men embark on a trek through rebel territory, a journey that could save Solomon's family and give Archer the second chance he thought he would never have.

Worthy but too preachy 25 out of 100
Di Caprio always worth watching but he seems stuck in a Clooney/Russell Crowe "must make films with a MESSAGE" phase most of the time. This isn't bad but a bit too preachy, although enlightening about how diamonds presumably get to market. Got the sense that the frantic chase and explosions/gunfire were a bid to appeal to those that might not want to spend a whole 2 hours or so without seeing fireworks. So-so overall.

Good but it had a certain cheesy quality to it and one just knew that di caprio would have that redeeming moment before the finale. The only way it could have been avoided would have been if my dvd player exploded before the end!

Di Caprio's Diamond performance 45 out of 100
Leonardo Di Caprio gives a truly stunning performance which well deserved his Oscar nomination for Best Actor. This is a film which raises the bar at every turn and doesn't fall into cliches or provide a comfy happy ending. Well recommended though some scenes may disturb the squeamish.

Not as "Hollywood" as I would have imagined. Di Caprio is coming into his own as an actor and his South African accent is flawless. While Slightly fantastical, pushes the message home about the diamond trade and African exploitation. Highly entertaining and mildly educational. Oh and the chick from Labyrinth's in it!

As a Docu - Movie I would consider this with Hotal Rwanda + Shoting Dogs - Very well put together action packaged along with realism. Ticked all the boxes for me - even though I would think and 18 would be more realistic as in I wouldn't be to happy with my 15 yr son watching it because it is quite violent and I'm not a prude :) I'll watch it again before the end of the weekend and will definate buy it for my classic collection :)

Good movie. Very enlightening, for me at least because I hadn't a clue about blood diamonds, it's disturbing. Good acting I thought. Leonardo di Caprio does a good South African accent, in my opinion. Not a very interesting part for Jennifer Connelly's talents.

As someone who isn't much of a Di Caprio fan. I was pleasantly surprised at how good he was. His accent was flawless, and he really showed his acting prowess here, that said, the other actors were also very good. Very realistically filmed, which made it all the more frightening that this sort of thing still goes on in the world. Excellent film.

This one came highly recommended by friends. Was looking forward to it but was very disappointed in the end. I found it quite boring and a pretty messy storyline. The father/son story was probably the most interesting aspect but it was surrounded by so much rubbish that it kinda got overlooked. Poor stuff.

Finally a movie that tells it like it is and its refreshing to see a movie that doesnt just blame the west for all the worlds ills--kinda rare today. Fantastic, engrossing, detailed, accurate. I normally dont like diCaprico but he is excellent here. Great story, great acting and its such a pity hollywood doesnt make more like this. Get it you will be glued to it.

I was a bit wary of this - a hollywood film dramatising a serious issue, Leonardo doing his bit in a pet project etc. but this is an excellent film. The acting is superb throughout and the film is nicely paced and plotted. The story may stretch credibility a bit especially near the end but overall this is a film that delivers a serious message without ramming it down your throat and also delivers plenty of entertainment.

I wasn't expecting much from this film and hadn't heard a lot of hype about it but I absolutely loved it. Definetely one of the best films I've seen this year. Great cast, great story, entertaining from start to finish and with an important message. A great way to spend a few hours.

This was a very watchable movie highlighting the horrendous cut-throat nature of the continuing rape of Africa by the western economies. Di Caprio has lost that kind of choirboy aura I always felt detracted from taking him seriously as an actor and he is excellent in this. His co-star Djimon Hounsou is very powerful as an actor and the two of them blend particularly well. The ending is a tad schmaltzy-Hollywood but I would thoroughly recommend a viewing.

Strong story with a message 40 out of 100
Apart from a couple of annoying inconsistencies this is an excellent action drama with a strong moral message attached. Western culture likes it's vices; drugs is the primary one but here we take a look at the rough diamond trade from Siera Leone. The plight of a simple farmer, who is captured by the thugs who pillage the diamond fileds to illegally sell to the West, is well delivered and DiCaprio weighs in with another fine performance too. Well recommended if a little gruesome.

Di Caprio cements his reputation as one of the best character actors in hollywood with this depiction of a an ex mercenary in Sierra Leone in search of a rare pink diamond. The movie is well meaning as seeks to highlight the inequalities of the diamond trade in a sometimes brutal environment. The ending though a bit sugary should not detract from a movie which is above your usual action thriller.

Preachy enough to be someways educational, though not enough to stop this from being an very good action movie, this film tries hard to be a lot of things, and generally suceeds at them all. As an action adventure it is fully accessible for people that may have been put off viewing the more "worthy" though excellent recent films on Africa, and the aftermath of it's colonial past. Not only that but all acting and production values are also of the highest standard. The two leads are great.

Close to the Truth 50 out of 100
The directors have managed to depict real life circumstances of the Sierra Leone region in a movie that is mainstream. Di Caprio is excellent in his performance and does an unquestionable impression of a South African male. Hounsou is a credible actor and featured in good movies such as Amistad. This is by far his best work. Storyline is balanced, it moves at a great pace and keeps you completely absorbed. Not for the faint-hearted as there is a great deal of violence in it.

Excellent 50 out of 100
An very good film, both Dicaprio and Hounsou are excellent, but when you have two good actors and a great script its hard to get it wrong. An engaging storyline with enough action, plot and love interest to keep everyone happy.

Blood Diamond 45 out of 100
an absolutely compelling story which will keep you glued to the screen. Makes you realise how lucky you are to live in a country without war. Its a bit drawn out and some of the scenes are very graphic and not for the faint hearted.

A very worth movie with Di Caprio giving a very credible performance and a believeable Rhodesian accent that lasted the movie. Movie performance however was stolen by co-star Djimon Hounsou.
