Synopsis:It's 1961 and attractive, bright 16-year-old schoolgirl, Jenny is poised on the brink of womanhood. Stifled by the tedium of adolescent routine, Jenny can't wait for adult life to begin. One rainy day, her suburban life is upended by the arrival of an unsuitable suitor, 30- ish David. Urbane and witty, David introduces Jenny to a glittering new world of classical concerts and late-night suppers. Just as the family's long-held dream of getting their brilliant daughter into Oxford seems within reach, Jenny is tempted by another kind of life. Will David be the making of Jenny or her undoing?

An Education - well worth a watch 40 out of 100
Really liked this movie. Rented it on the strength of reviews I read and was not disappointed. I got totally absorbed, great acting. Would certainly recommend this. My 15 year old daughter also loved it.

Not much to the story. Had very little sympathy with the heroine. It was sold as something much more than it was.

A real education 45 out of 100
Really enjoyed this. A simple film but an excellent lesson learned. Fantastic characters, especially the father. Would recommend it to both sexes.

Very enjoyable 35 out of 100
I was quite looking forward to seeing this film after reading the reviews and was not disapointed. The story was lovely. No sex,blood or violance I think this was more a girlie film. Was this a remake of another movie? The main actor kept reminding me of Michael Caine in alfie. Thank god ideas and value have changed. Her father and especially her mother drove me mad but these were the times. Moral of Story: It doesnt matter how old the man is they cant be trusted.

An absolutely terrific film easy to sit back and watch but leaves you thinking .... what if I... the film is sexy and the clothing and costume design are wonderful probably considered a chick flick but not mushy. a definite watch

This is a well made movie, i did enjoy. The storyline was interesting and acting was great. I thought they could have taken it a bit further at the end but overall it was well scripted. Some great comedic moments from the dad.

Really good film enjoyed from start to finish surprisingly a real grown up kind of story, kind of almost a feel good movie as your pitching for the main character towards the end, highly recommend.

Fantastic! 45 out of 100
Having heard and read a few reviews around the time of oscar hype I thought I'd like this. I was not wrong. Great mix of comedy (particularly from Alfred Molinas character) and tension. Very well acted by all involved. Not so much a film about a realationship between an older man and a school girl but more of a coming of age movie and social comentary on a time when a womans role was seen as wife and home maker.

Young schoolgirl falls for older man ... a very enjoyable coming of age movie which is in no way shabby or tacky. The only problem I had with it is that Carey Mulligan does not convince as a 16 year old she just looks like a 20+ pretending to be 16. I loved Emma Thompson as the school principal with higher hopes for her students.

I thought this was an odd movie - I suppose it was trying to warn young girls away from older men - at least that's what I got out of it. The imagery and costumes were good as was the acting. Just not really excited about the story line and where it all ended up.

Little Gem! 45 out of 100
This is a little gem of a film, great cast and perfectly formed. Very funny, sad and nostalgic by turns. Carey Mulligan well deserved her Bafta and Oscar nomination. A film made with love, that asks what makes a good parent and reminds us that a headstrong daughter will go her own way, you just have to hope she listens to some of the advice!
