Synopsis:Renowned horror novelist Mike Enslin (Cusack) only believes what he can see with his own two eyes. After a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world, he scoffs at the concept of an afterlife. Enslin's phantom-free run of long and lonely nights is about to change forever when he checks into suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel for his latest project, "Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms." Defying the warnings of the hotel manager (Jackson), the author is the first person in years to stay in the reputedly haunted room. Another bestseller may be iminent, but like all Stephen King heroes, Enslin must go from skeptic to true believer - and ultimately survive the night.

I was expecting a lot from this movie, unfortunatly what I got was a lot of non-sense, the plot is excellent but ends up going nowhere, i felt cheated at the end as it could have been brilliant.

i was expecting a lot from a film based on a stephen king story and starring john cusack and samuel l jackson.i was badly let down! plot was ridiculous and full of holes,its confusing and not very scary at all. do not recommend

I had been hoping for more from this film and its cast. John Cusack gives a decent performance and so does Samuel L. Jackson. The story, however, is a bit weak. Do not rent this if you're looking for a hard core horror film. It's a decent Friday night film with a few scary moments, but nothing extra special.

Worth an hour 30 out of 100
This is a decent thriller but not really scary. Cusack is great in it and he really carries the movie, would not be as good without him. This is not a scary movie and there is no blood'n'guts. It's one of theos where you're waiting for the next jump, and trying to figure out what's happening. I like this movie over all. i reccommend it if you've nothing on but don't stay in for it.

This is a fairly good movie. Thankfully it doesn't take take too long to get going and when it does it will keep your interest almost all the way through. The end slackens a bit but this is the case with most horrors and ghost stories. John Cusack is good always good value and this is no exception, it;s fun to watch him here.

Another film where the best bits all fit into a 30 second trailer... Didn't get what I expected from this film - the short story was much scarier - in fact the only part that made me sit up was in the air vents. But Cusack does the best with the script he was given, and acts well around the special effects

Oh Dear... Disappointing... 25 out of 100
Starts well and is kinda creepy [ although from the previous reviews I was already half scared when i started it]... BUT it get's really unscary and kinda stupid half way through and then prattles on for the remainder... didnlt really care what happen to him in the end. WILL SOMEONE MAKE A GOOD HORROR!!

A proper ghost story... 40 out of 100
with 'real' ghosts and a scary plot. It tool a little bit too long to get into the scary part, but once there it was almost non-stop right until the end. Best horror I've seen in a while.

Having waited in anticipation to see this movie, it was a hugh anti-climax. If you watch the trailer, you'll have the best and scariest parts of the film.

Psychological thriller, twists, turns & special effects too! John Cusack is intense in his character portrail, yet still loveable and endearing. Samuel Jackson, never saw him looking so smart in a film, his poise and presence; the approachable bad guy...yet I wish more of my male friends would wear similar suits. Definately one to watch all alone!!!

Wonderfully Creepy 40 out of 100
This film was creepy in just the right way. It was better than I expected it to be & as a huge fan of John Cusack, it was great to see him in a role so utterly different from any he has played in the past. Whether you end up liking the plot itself is a little beside the point, as Cusack is a powerhouse in this film. He spends the majority of the film onscreen completely on his own & his performance is incredible. You can see that it exhausted & drained him in the best possible way. Intense.

When did John Cusack start making such dribble... does he desperately need to pay the mortgage?... We've come to expect this sort of we’ve come to expect this sort of whoring from Jackson (seriously – name a good movie apart from Pulp Fiction)… but Cusack? It’s predictable, too long, and plain rubbish. Avoid – life’s too short.

Enjoyable 30 out of 100
1408 is a genuinely creepy and atmospheric film with some really good shock moments, for the first hour or so. Unfortunately the last act loses the plot and the CGI takes over. John Cusack is, as always, excellent as the lead character, delivers the wit and humour perfectly and holds the film together the best he can. The room is very well portrayed and the camera work and angles are expertly shot as there is a genuine sense of uneasiness and menace.

I had read a few reviews before watching this but despite the slating that it had recieved my reaction was that everyone is a critic so I gave it a go. The setting up of the whole main plot is pretty much ok but bearing in mind the main character apparently does this for living he was easily spooked its about as scary as an episode of telly tubbies. Jackson did the bare minimum to pick up his pay cheque it fails miserably to deliver what a horror flick should.

A Missed Opportunity 25 out of 100
I really hoped to be the one who would see something in this film everyone else missed, as a fan of Stephen King I was sure it couldn't be as disappointing as everyone else says. I was wrong. It started well, setting the plot from the beginning. But it went downhill from there, it is predictable to the point were the scary bits aren't scary. The actors are just reading their parts. A shame.
